How often, really?

Most Delhi homes go years between cleanings — here’s the schedule that actually works.

DJB water

Every 6 months

On municipal DJB supply, a home rooftop tank should be cleaned twice a year. That’s the baseline.

Borewell

Every 3–4 months

Borewell water carries a heavier mineral load, so tanks scale faster and need cleaning more often.

Season

Always clean post-monsoon

Rain carries dust, leaves and insects through weak lids. If you clean once a year, do it in early September.

Warning

“The water looked fine”

By the time water tastes off, sludge has built up for months. Clear water is not clean water.

Rule of thumb

Can’t remember? Clean now

If you can’t recall the last cleaning, it’s overdue. Ignore anyone pushing monthly — that’s just upsell.
