Chandni Chowk is the congested spine of the walled city, a maze of old havelis and wholesale bazaars where families live stacked above the shops. Sunlight passes through the Sintex wall on an open haveli terrace and warms the water, and that warmth is precisely the condition algae and biofilm need to bloom.
