• Atmospheric testing before entry — oxygen levels, hydrogen sulphide if applicable
• Two-person rule — one inside the tank, one outside the entry as standby and watcher
• Full PPE — harness with retrieval lanyard, gloves, safety boots, hard hat, respirator if vapours are present
• Forced ventilation — for tanks that have been sealed for long periods
• Documented entry log — entry time, exit time, observations, conditions

This level of safety adds time and cost compared to a casual residential cleaning, but it’s the only responsible way to do underground industrial tank work. Our crew has handled hundreds of these without incident.
