Old kothi inside Mehrauli village, farmhouse off MG Road, builder floor in Lado Sarai, plot in Gadaipur or Ghitorni — Mehrauli has more underground sumps than almost anywhere else in Delhi. Most of them haven’t been opened in decades. Starting ₹600 overhead, ₹1500-4500 sumps and farmhouses.
Most of what we do in Mehrauli is underground water sumps. Old kothis in Mehrauli village proper have them buried under the driveway. Farmhouses on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road have them under the front lawn. The newer plots in Gadaipur and Ghitorni mostly have them too, just less old.
The thing that’s specific to Mehrauli: a huge percentage of these sumps have never been deep-cleaned. Not in 5 years, not in 20, sometimes not ever. The owners inherited the property, never thought about the underground tank, and the water comes out of the tap so “it’s fine”. When we finally open one of these sumps for the first time, the residents are almost always surprised. 6 inches of compacted sediment is a typical Mehrauli first-clean. We’ve found 12 inches in a few of the really old village kothis.
Farmhouses on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road have a particular setup that needs explaining. Most are on 1-2 acre plots with:
Cleaning a farmhouse properly means doing all the tanks in sequence, in the right order, because the sump feeds the rooftops. If we clean the rooftops first and then the sump, the rooftops re-fill with whatever sediment we just disturbed in the sump. The right sequence: sump first, drain through to confirm pipes are clear, then rooftops, then rinse-cycle the whole property. Takes 4-5 hours minimum but it’s done properly.
Mehrauli is 25-35 minutes from our Khanpur base in normal traffic — faster than most South West Delhi areas because we’re right next door. For Mehrauli village and Lado Sarai bookings, we can almost always reach you the same day. Farmhouses on the MG Road side are 35-45 minutes; same-day is usually fine if you call before noon.
“Our farmhouse off Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road has multiple tanks — one large underground sump plus 3-4 rooftop tanks. Can you do everything in one visit?” Yes, this is one of our most common Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road farmhouse jobs. A typical farmhouse with one sump and 3-4 rooftops takes 4-5 hours with a 2-3 person crew. Quoted on inspection because tank sizes and access vary widely on farmhouse plots. Usually ₹3500-4500 for the full setup.
“Our Mehrauli village kothi was built in the 1960s. The underground sump has never been opened. Can you handle it?” Yes — first-time deep cleans of 60-year-old sumps are something we do every week in Mehrauli proper. Expect 2.5-3 hours instead of the usual 90 minutes. Sometimes we recommend a new lid (the old iron pull-handle has often rusted solid) and lid replacement is ₹400-800. We’ll show you what’s inside before doing anything.
“Mehrauli village has very tight lanes. Can your vehicle access them?” Most Mehrauli village inner lanes are 4-6 feet wide — too tight for our van. We park near the main road or in a wider clearing and walk in with hand-carried equipment. Adds 15-20 minutes. We’ve worked across Mehrauli village proper many times — the gully system is something our regular crew knows by name now.
